What matters first

Summary

  • CopyPastePlus runs as a macOS clipboard utility on your Mac.
  • Clipboard history is stored locally under ~/Library/Application Support/CopyPastePlus/.
  • Clipboard contents are not sent to CopyPastePlus servers by default.
  • In normal operation, the local history file is encrypted at rest with AES-GCM using a Keychain-backed key.
  • The app includes minimal operational telemetry, such as an app_open event with device ID, app version, OS version, language, and country. Clipboard contents are not included.
  • Auto-updates use Sparkle to fetch update metadata and signed app releases.
  • Payments, tax handling, license delivery, and refunds are handled through Stripe, Mercado Pago, or the active payment provider.
What the app reads

Clipboard Data

To function as a clipboard manager, CopyPastePlus reads clipboard changes from macOS. Clipboard items can include text, URLs, images, file references, and code snippets.

The app stores those items in its local history so you can search, reuse, pin, lock, delete, or transform them.

CopyPastePlus skips pasteboard entries that use common privacy markers such as transient, concealed, or auto-generated pasteboard types when those markers are present.

How history is kept

Local Storage

The local history file is history.json inside the CopyPastePlus Application Support folder.

When encryption succeeds, the file is written as a CPP1-prefixed AES-GCM payload. The encryption key is generated locally and stored in the macOS Keychain.

If the macOS Keychain is unavailable, the app can preserve history by writing local data without encryption instead of losing clipboard records. This is a failure mode, not the expected path.

Activation and purchase

License Data

License keys, activation state, and licensed email when provided are stored in the macOS Keychain.

License data can be sent to CopyPastePlus services when you activate a license, validate an entitlement, or perform license-related update flows.

Operational signal

Telemetry

CopyPastePlus can report minimal app usage events to help understand installation and launch health.

Telemetry does not include clipboard contents, clipboard history, copied files, copied URLs, or copied images.

The current telemetry payload can include a generated device ID, event name, app version, OS version, language, country, and event metadata.

User-controlled cloud behavior

Optional iCloud Sync

iCloud Sync is optional and controlled from the app settings.

When enabled, sync uses Apple's CloudKit infrastructure and the private database associated with your iCloud account.

If you do not enable iCloud Sync, clipboard history remains local to the Mac except for the operational services described in this policy.

External processors

Third-Party Services

  • Sparkle is used for signed app updates.
  • Stripe, Mercado Pago, or the configured payment provider is used for checkout, tax handling, license delivery, and refunds.
  • Apple CloudKit is used only if iCloud Sync is enabled.
Deletion and contact
